On the 25th September 2012, 60 acclaimed artists joined forces with De’Longhi at the Royal College of Art in Kensington to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Now in its sixth consecutive year, this year’s auction saw an exciting and eclectic mix of contributions, including photographs, paintings, sculptures and prints, all go under the hammer. Donations include pieces from an array of high profile and celebrated international artists and designers including Antony Gormley, Rankin, Ringo Starr, Gavin Turk, Maggi Hambling CBE, Jack Vettriano, Natasha Law, Sam Taylor-Wood, Gillian Wearing and many more. With 520 people calling the Macmillan support line every day and over 2 million people currently living with cancer in the UK, each artist will make a noticeable difference to the charity by kindly donating one of their valuable works. Over the past five years, the auction has been a regular engagement in London’s social diary, attended and supported by the great and good of the celebrity, art society and business worlds. Past hosts and keen supporters have included Claudia Winkleman, Jerry Hall, Katherine Jenkins, Fearne Cotton, Amber Atherton and Olli Lock. Entertainment on the night will also be provided by DJ and Made in Chelsea star - Diego Bivero-Volpe. To date, donations and support have helped to raise almost £700,000. Charles Byrne, Head of Corporate Partnerships and Events from Macmillan Cancer Support, says; “The Macmillan De’Longhi Art Auction is a hugely exciting event. It is a real honour to have such strong support again from De’Longhi as well as so many fantastic artists. The money raised will help us to reach and improve the lives of so many people”. Nigel Wainwright, De’Longhi Commercial Director North/East Europe, adds; “We feel privileged to be able to help contribute to the amazing and vital work carried out by Macmillan Cancer Support through our art auction. We never cease to be overwhelmed by the generosity and commitment of the artists, photographers and, of course, the guests, who help make this auction such a success year after year”. |
