The Elephant in the room
Oil on Canvas 60x72 inches A printer’s block in the centre of this painting was traditionally used to repeat a pattern when printing fabric in India.
I used this block as a symbol of a pattern of behaviour that no one talks about-‘The Elephant in the Room’. This block is from a small printer’s shop in Jhansi, the hometown of the brave and iconic Rani of Jhansi. She stepped forward hundreds of years ago, in protest. A tribute also, to all the women and men who have broken their silence today to take on the establishment and break a pattern. |
