Fibonacci Series
This series of works is inspired by a mathematical series. 0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13..... where each number is a sum of the last two numbers. This pattern, named after the Italian Mathematician, Fibonacci, repeats itself in nature, in rings of trees, in the breeding of rabbits, in petals of flowers, in the proportion of the human body and many other forms of nature. The ratio achieved by dividing one number in the series by the previous isconstant at 1.618. Termed the golden ratio, it is the most aesthetically pleasing proportion known to the human eye. It has been used in architecture and art over the ages- in the pyramids of Giza, the Parthenon in Athens and the face of Mona Lisa. |
