Uninterrupted
The Nehru Centre, London 2018 |
Curator, Lindzay Chan " The exhibition "uninterrupted" is a personal story of liberation. It explores what inspires each and every one of us to rise, to awaken and to be free. Born in Calcutta, the artist, Shivani Mathur, moved to London in 1998 to work in an investment bank. She was one of a rare breed - a ‘female trader’ in the City of London- and she loved it. Along with trading, she pursued, with equal dedication, a career in art. As her business career flourished, so did her art which began to get publicly appreciated across the world. This exhibition focuses away from these moments of harmony to a more turbulent time. It is about a relentless and treacherous journey to uncover the clouded and the opaque. It is what she calls “the uninterrupted pursuit of truth” The works are in bright colour reflecting her positive outlook. Shivani says “The world we live in is finite, constantly changing, and impermanent. The power within us is not. My journey has given me strength, resilience, perspective and a realisation that a closed door often shows the way forward.” Artists address at the inauguration

I liked the big paintings with the grid pattern – particularly “The elephant in the room”. It’s a good show and the underlying meanings are very topical.
Helena Bell, Artistic Director, Kali theatre
I love the way Shivani capture such strong feelings through the colours and textures of the paint. So immediate and full of life and energy and the scale was fabulous. It was truly joyous.
Elizabeth Cuffy, Trustee, Kali theatre
I enjoyed viewing the paintings, and Shivani’s presentation gave more meaning to them when l viewed them for a second time.

This the the first time I have seen the entire process - planning, execution and showcasing of an art exhibition. I helped hang the art and working with Shivani Mausi and the entire process was thoroughly enjoyable and very inspiring.

Shivani’s work is inspiring, equally inspiring is the manner in which she handles adversity to rise, to awaken and to be free.
